Just a reminder to everyone and new players to not use all your cap space. From memory at a minimum FA pickups cost $500k each against your salary cap space. Example to do 10 changes for the year you need $5K cap space. Don't want the same situation again where teams are stuck.

Last year if you dropped a guy with no future years on his contract, only $500k would count against your cap for the rest of the season. For instance I had been paying Tony Parker $1.5 mm on a one-year deal and when I dropped him, that freed up $1 mm of cap space for me. Was that a special rule just for last season?

No, the rule was (and still is) if you drop a player the is not on league minimum, $500K of his salary wouldn't count against the cap.
So for parker, if he was on 1.5M and was dropped only 1M would still count against the cap.
