If I sign a player to a multi year contract and that contract causes me to be over the salary cap in a future season does that immediately trigger sanctions or do i have till the start of that particular season to get my house in order?
I am sure this issue has been discussed before but I have been scratching my head and I have never heard of an NBA or NFL or NHL team ever being penalized for being over a cap in a future season. I am sure in all leagues teams have until the start of that particular season to get their house in order. Hence we often see real teams trying to unload massive contracts in the preseason to give such teams cap space. Often meaning that until they unloaded the contract they were above the cap allowance.

If a contract puts you over in ANY year you have 24 hours to rectify.
