As the poll says, should we carry on with the current system (highest total value) or switch to highest annual average value?

Yes, some of the benefits of each are exact opposites, as it's all a matter of personal perspective.
Obviously this would have to be discussed/voted/approved for a future season, just thought I'd see what folks think.
Benefits of sticking with the current system:
- We're all familiar with it
- With current $500k/$1M contract increments, math is maybe a bit easier
- Emphasis on longer contracts leads to more static rosters
Benefits of switching to annual average:
- Makes bids more realistic--$20M over 1 year would beat $21M over 4 years, as it should
- Easier to see rough impact of contracts on salary caps
- Encourages shorter contracts, resulting in more player movement
