OK.. I admit I don't get this one.
I thought putting Melo on waivers meant that if people wanted him they had to claim his contract not just go out there and give him a new one?
Pretty sure I read that if two managers made a claim for a player on waivers then it would go to the player with the weakest record.
My understanding is that if you want Melo you must be willing to accept his current 10 mil per year for 2 years.

Once Melo clears waivers. He is FA. ATM we are bidding on FAs. During the normal season you pick them up.

Managers atm believe a re-bidding of Melo would result in a cheaper contract then taking him off waivers.

Melo cleared waivers when no-one claimed him after 24 hours. Now he’s back to being a free agent

Commish says its as the Yahoo setting of 2 days. Bottom line is Camelo is/will be an FA for rebidding and stretch will go through. Plan accordingly.

My understanding is that if no one took him off waivers I could then stretch his contract.
No mention was made of any FA situation. The commish made it clear that I should declare how I planned to stretch his contract.
How can a player go to FA if he has already been signed to a contract??? What happens to that contract?
The idea that he goes to FA after he clears waivers is absurd as the whole basis of putting him on waivers was so the contract could be stretched.
You either accept his current contract or I can stretch that contract.
Otherwise why did I need to put him on waivers in order to stretch his contract. How can I stretch a contract for a player who has suddenly fled to Free Agency???
None of this makes any sense at all. There is no logic to the procedure.
I will await the commish to weigh in and explain this.
I am happy to go along with the decision but there is clearly a lack of logic in what is happening and at the very least I need to understand the process for future happenings.

Step 1: He clears waivers.
Step 2: Your stretch goes through and you have bought out his contract. Your part is done.
Step 3: He is then a FA.
Step 4: During this FA period we have a bidding process for FAs. During the year, you pick them up as a minimum contract.

The lack of logic came in bidding $20m for Melo

“Stretching a contract” means you’ve dropped him but “stretching” the cost to minimise the impact on your salary cap

A stretch can only be used after you drop a player. Not to spread the salary of an existing player you are keeping.
